Application of a Traditional Oil Sealer

This method really enhances & brings out the colour of your tiles, but is labour intensive. Use a 1:1 ratio of boiled linseed oil & mineral turpentine which will be your primary sealer.
  1. Clean tiles as per tiling guideline & allow to dry properly.
  2. Apply a 1st coat of primary sealer by rubbing a very thin layer of sealer into the tiles with a lint free cloth
  3. Buff off with a dry lint free cloth
  4. Repeat (steps 2&3) for 3-4 times with intervals of up tp 2 hours to allow for drying times between applications. Drying times is dependant on daily temperatures

Please note that these are very thin applications. Excess sealer causes puddles which become tacky and have to be removed with effort & expense. It is advisable to apply a number of very thin layers of sealer, buffing off after each layer, rather than a few thicker coats. Use the buff-on buff-off method to avoid puddles.

Final sealer (Nova 3)
If possible wait a couple of days before doing the final seal. The reason for this is that once the sealer has been given the time to dry properly, you may find that a 5th layer is needed. This will then be the perfect time to apply a 5th layer. Once this has dried (about 4 hours) you can then apply Nova 3.This is not compulsory but does give that extra protection.

Apply Nova 3 thinly as per manufacturers instructions, this is to enhance colour & to protect the tiles floor. Again, buff-on buff-off. Nova 3 is optional but does prevent staining & give a better finish. Nova 3 also reduces maintenance & cleans easier.

Floors must not be cleaned with any ammonia-based products, use Sunlight dishwashing liquid to clean your floors and rinse with clean water after washing. Floors age & mature gradually, shade differences within tiles are a feature of Africotta. A dull appearance may indicate that wax or sealer may be required - in our experience this may occur after 12-18 months
